This has special Friday activities and all
booked camps: it is frequently updated More information on our website: http://aquila.scout-troop.org.uk/Member_information/calendar.htm |
2 - HIKEOVER |
---|
Friday evening March 18 - Saturday morning
March 19 Already registered? I am about to send out an email to those who I have listed. If you do not get that separate email but think you have registered, email me back. The final information is now available: http://aquila.scout-troop.org.uk/Member_information/newsletters.htm Very important: we do have an important kit check the Friday before (11 March). This ensures that scouts are adequately clothed. Details are in this letter and parents are welcome to "sit in" Not yet registered? Read on The Troop is going on a Friday evening hike, followed by sleeping over in heated, indoor accommodation at Braid Wood Scout Centre, near Chesham. We will finish Saturday midday. While some of the details are still to be finalised, the arrangements are as follows. The hike will be approximately the normal Troop meeting time and start at approx. 7:30 p.m. It will be on paths in the Chilterns and we will ensure there is adequate adult supervision. No particular equipment is needed for this, but preferably Scouts will wear hiking boots. A good torch would be an advantage. Scouts will need to have sleeping gear, including sleeping bag, camp mat etc, which we plan on transporting to the Braid Wood by car. On arriving at Braid Wood we will have some supper and some video entertainment, (then hopefully some sleep!). Saturday morning, we will have breakfast and then some wide games before finishing. But Scouts that need to get back straight away can leave first thing on Saturday morning. For this activity, leaders can transport some Scouts, but we are likely to need some parents to help drive in each direction (approx. 30 - 40 minutes.) The cost will be £7 per Scout and the registration form is here: http://aquila.scout-troop.org.uk/Activities/Camp_information/Form_Hikeover.htm This is a great starter activity for new scouts: one night and indoor accommodation. 3 - SUMMER CAMP |
---|
Hopefully the Summwer Camp video shown last
Friday will inspire a few more scouts. We do hold a few
places for new scouts until they have got thenselves
familiar with the troop and gone on a nights-away
acticvity with us. We have the dates (Saturday
23 July to Saturday 30 July, 2022) and site
booked: St Brides Scout Camp in Pembrokeshire Coast
National Park. This is a very different area from our
last Summer Camp. This is a Scout campsite, right on the
coast near St Davids
We are now taking deposits for this, our main activity of the year. The first letter, requesting deposit is on our website. http://aquila.scout-troop.org.uk/Member_information/newsletters.htm After paying the deposit, complete the short registration form: http://aquila.scout-troop.org.uk/Activities/Camp_information/Form_Summer_Camp_deposit.htm More information: http://aquila.scout-troop.org.uk/Activities/Camp_information/Summer_camp_information.htm There are some photos of the site and area: http://aquila.scout-troop.org.uk/Activities/Campsites/st_brides.htm More photos are on our noticeboard in the Scout Hut. We are keeping the cost of the Camp down to £174.00, inclusive of transport, food and accommodation. We need to get a clear idea of the number of scouts who wish to go, so to ensure a place please pay the deposit of £49.00 as soon as possible, IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO GET NUMBERS SORTED OUT EARLY, AND WE WANT TO TRY TO ENSURE WE CAN TAKE ALL SCOUTS WHO WANT TO COME AND BOOK ENOUGH PLACES FOR ACTIVITIES. SO REPLY QUICKLY. I think all the Scouts had a great time last Summer Camp, so I hope plenty will sign up for the next: the highlight of the Troop's year. |
4 - SPRING CAMP |
---|
Friday evening to Sunday, 13 - 15 May Tolmers Scout Activity centre, Cuffley We hope that lots of scouts will want to participate in this our main activity until Summer Camp. We are planning our camp for the weekend at Tolmers. It is a mixture of open field and woodland. There are various camp site activities already booked. As well as some of these, the programme will be a mixture of activities and games: this site is excellent for wide games. I hope that Scouts will do some part of the Challenge badges. We will have a camp fire on the Saturday evening. We will ask what food they would like when meetings restart after Easter. We will leave 6.30 p.m. on Friday and return after lunch on Sunday. This is our normal Spring weekend camp, with initial information: http://aquila.scout-troop.org.uk/Activities/Camp_information/Spring_camp_information.htm The cost will be 19.00 pounds inclusive and this should be paid by by April 29 (bank transfer or cash). Final details, equipment list etc. will be posted later, but We have opened registration: http://aquila.scout-troop.org.uk/Activities/Camp_information/Form_Spring_Camp.htm |
5 - ACTIVITIES: H&P FORMS, TRAVEL ETC |
---|
AS we hopefully return to fairly normal, this
is a good opportunity to point out some of our procedures
relating to camp activities. We have three such before
Summer Camp: Hikeover and Spring Campwith information
above, and Aquila Starnight, mentioned briefly below H&P form This Health and Permission form (usually we shorten to H&P Form) is required for every activity that involves a night away. It provides several essential purposes:
There is a Word form that can be filled out and printed. You
just need to update each time:
An exception is Summer Camp, when we hire a van for kit and
minibus for scouts' transport to, from and around. |
6 - GROUP CHURCH PARADE |
---|
Sunday March 20 - Homewood Road Church. The Group has two Church Parades a year, when Beavers, Cubs and Scouts join with the Homewood Road Church, our sponsors, for the Sunday morning service. The Church is has continued to be very supportive: this is a way we can show our appreciation of that effort. The Scout Group expects its members to take part in some of these parades and attendance will cout towards a Challenge badge. Scouts should meet in full uniform at 10:50 a.m. in the Church Hall. It finishes by 12:00 and there are refreshments after in the church hall. |
