1) With a variety of ways to record visually and by sound (e.g. smart phones) , we have a set of guidelines to ensure fairness and privacy for all scouts, in addition to the rules over use of mobile phones and other electronic devices.
2) On joining, parents are asked to sign that they permit leaders to take photos during scout activities for use within the Troop, but with provisos over how they might be used. Currently our own guidelines for our web site are that only small size photos are displayed to demonstrate activities and no personal information is published.
3) Some activities, organized by the Scout District or County, take "official" photos for promotional purposes. However, if this is not acceptable, then discuss with the scout leader.
4) During scout activities and meetings, scouts should not take photos (still or movie) or record without permission of a leader. Generally we would encourage scouts who wish to make a record of our activities, especially (but not only) towards one of the Activity or Challenge badges. However, this permission should be requested before starting, so we can explain the limitations.
5) No photos or other recordings taken during Troop activities should be transmitted to others or published in any way without the Scout Leader's permission. This transmission would include as phone messages, on social network sites or by any other means.
