List of recent Green Berets and how we did!
This is an inter-Troop County event in the middle of November, with more than 100 teams from all over Hertfordshire. It has four separate competitions, each with Trophies, and a Trophy for the over-all winners: including orienteering, assault course and night activities. It runs from Friday evening to Sunday morning, so two nights camping. This is particularly aimed at scouts with some Scouting experience (at least a camp), but enthusiastic newcomers can apply: it is always a very enjoyable, but challenging event.
Indeed, it would be great to have a team of younger scouts, who can take part, so gaining experience.
Note that the competition requires teams of 6 scouts and they must all be present throughout the competition, which continues through Saturday evening. Preferably Scouts stay until until Sunday morning.
From March onwards. We try to get teams sorted out. While we do not want to become too focussed on “position”, we do want to give opportunity for teams to come together and do well. We have showed that teams from the Aquila Troop can do very well and, perhaps, improve on that performance. Particularly for Scouts who took part in LAST year’s Green Beret, we are encouraging Scouts to get teams sorted at this stage, so we can then do a few activities during Troop meetings where those teams work together. Inevitably, with our busy schedule, these opportunities will be spread out over the next few months and so we must start the process NOW.
Early autumn. Detailed information should be available in early Autumn. We try to encourage Scouts to get together as a team (teams must be of six scouts): the team they want to be in. However, we form very effective teams from all who want to take part.
September We accept individual registrations.
This year, Green Beret will be at Lees Wood Scout Campsite. The Challenge is particularly aimed at scouts with some Scouting experience (at least a camp), but we hope we can include enthusiastic newcomers, so apply.
I will talk to Scouts about this during a Troop meeting, but there is an early deadline for entries, so we need to get teams sorted out soon. If your scout wishes to take part, I must have bank transfer, cash or cheque (payable to 18th St Albans Scout Troop) by mid October, and preferably before. As teams must be of six scouts, cheques will not be cashed until we have a complete team.
