SCOUT TROOP

GROUP TIMELINE

1950

Our Group was founded. Our Scout Troop and a Cub Pack started, meeting at Homewood Road Church. Our Troop did not have a specific name until recently.

1953

A Senior Scout Troop was founded (forerunner of Venture Unit, then Explorers)

1966

With the reforms of the "Advanced Party Report", the Senior Scout Troop became a Venture Scout Unit, which continued until 1999, with several names over the years, but longest as Omega VSU.

1967

Official opening of our original Group Scout Hut

1978

A second Cub Pack started, named Homewood Cub Pack. The original pack became Douthwaite Cub Pack, which continued until 1995.

1989

A second Scout Troop (Tyler) started and ran for five years 1991 Our first Beaver Colony started

1991

Our first Beaver Colony started

1993

A second Beaver Colony started and was named Homewood Beaver Colony: later it was called simply Tuesday Beaver Colony. The original Colony became the Tyler Beaver Colony and continued until 2000.

1998

Our old Scout Hut burnt down.

1999

The new Group Headquarters was completed and opened.

2005

Douthwaite Cub Pack restarted.

2007

Tyler Scout Troop restarted. The original Troop (us!) became Aquila Scout Troop.

2009

A second Beaver Colony restarted, meeting on Fridays. It was named the Wick Wood Beaver Colony. In 2016 Tuesday Beavers - previously Homewood Beavers - become "Hall Heath Beaver Colony".

2013

An Explorer Scout Unit started, meeting on Wednesdays at our Group Headquarters. It was named Hall Heath Explorers. Currently Explorers are run directly by the Scout District, rather than being an official part of a Scout Group.
