WHAT IS THE UNIFORM?

Scouting is a uniformed organisation and the uniform is one of the things that make being a Scout special.

Our uniform is worn for most weekly meetings and to and from camps and similar activities (unless otherwise informed).

All members of the Group wear the same type of uniform trousers, which are blue cargo trousers. Each section has its own top: a green shirt for Scouts. 

All badges, neckerchief and the woggle are presented when they are invested (see below).

NECKERCHIEF

Everyone in the Group wears the Group neckerchief, which has blue and gold halves.

We all also wear some of the same badges: the Group nametape, St Albans and Herts County badges and the World Scout Badge (Membership badge).

The neckerchief and these badges are presented when when the new member is first invested into the Group. They can continue to wear all these as they progress through the Group, WHETHER OR NOT they are invested into a new section.

BADGES

Badges are obtained as follows.

Presented at the investiture:

• Scout woggle
• Group nametape
• Patrol badge
• St Albans and Herts badges
• Membership badge
• Neckerchief

If gained as a Cub, these are transferred to the scout shirt:

• FURY badge
• Staged activity awards
• Participation (year) badge
• Cub Chief Scout’s Award

WHERE TO BUY UNIFORM

Uniform and other scouting items can be bought at the District Scout Shop. This is open during term-time, on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. (Note time change). The shop is located at the Scout District Headquarters off Waverley Road. It is signposted from this road and parking is available.

Uniforms etc can also be bought from the Scout Association, either by mail or on line, direct from the scout Shop or via Amazon. See the External Links.

WHAT TO BUY? When joining the Troop: Uniform blue cargo trousers and shirt. Cubs should already have the blue trousers. Uniform shorts are available as an option.

USED UNIFORMS

If you have uniform items that are no longer needed, why not hand them in, so we can make them available to others? Bring clean items to the Scout Leader.

FOOTWEAR

Trainers are the normal footwear for weekly meetings. Boots are not suitable for meetings in the Group Headquarters, because hard soles may cause injury to other Scouts during active games.
