ABOUT EXPLORERS

Explorers (age 14 to 18) are organised centrally by St Albans Scout District and there are several units throughout the City. U*nits meet on a variety of evenings and each has its own programme, but some activities are joint between all or some units.

Explorers also includes the Young Leader scheme: anyone 14 - 17 who helps regularly with a younger section is registered as an Explorer in the Young Leader Scheme. This may be all the scouting activity done or a Young Leader could also take part in some Explorer activities.

St Albans Explorers have a website with information about all the units: look in the External links page.

WHAT OLDER SCOUTS NEED TO DO

For current members of Aquila over 13 years old, you MUST register interest in joining Explorers by contacting the main St Albans Scout web site: this is linked in the External Links page. Fill out the appropriate section. Hopefully you will be sent information about Explorer units in St Albans.

Aquila policy on moving on from Aquila to Explorers is here: please look at this, as a time to move on needs to agreed early. This is generally between 14 and 14 and a half years old.

When coming close to 14 years old a Scout will get some information about Explorers and a chance to visit one or more unit.

We hope that Scouts on leaving the Troop for Explorers will keep some contact with the Group. This could possibly be through helping with a younger section (as a Young Leader) or in other ways.
